Community Crafting - Felting the Virus
Learning about the human papillomavirus (HPV) is more fun when there is a craft involved!
In the summer of 2014, the ACCSS team held a wool felting workshop. Researchers Drs Pauline Sameshima and Ingeborg Zehbe and Lauren Aho and 10 women from Animbiigoo Zaagi'igan Anishinaabek participated in a sharing circle. Everyone created their own 'HPV ball' with wool felt while learning about HPV and cervical cancer. The success of this workshop indicates that such arts-integrated approaches should be pursued in the future.
