A new logo to reflect our growth
The new logo reflects the evolution and growth of the ACCSS project. Kevin Belmore has designed the logo to include community members of all ages and genders; with blueberries and cranberries symbolize growing knowledge.
Art to capture the day
At the Community Update Gathering in October 2015, ACCSS invited local artist Matthew O'Reilly to capture the mood of the day and interpret the discussion in a work of art. The result seen below has incorporated many elements of the discussion that day. Many women spoke of certain colours making them think of water and forests. Later in the day there was discussion of the human papillomavirus more commonly called HPV.
'Arts Integration' in research - Wool felting of HPV balls
Learning about the human papillomavirus (HPV) is more fun when there is a craft involved!
In the summer of 2014, the ACCSS team held a wool felting workshop. Researchers Drs Pauline Sameshima and Ingeborg Zehbe and Lauren Aho and 10 women from Animbiigoo Zaagi'igan Anishinaabek participated in a sharing circle. Everyone created their own 'HPV ball' with wool felt while learning about HPV and cervical cancer. The success of this workshop indicates that such arts-integrated approaches should be pursued in the future.
